Interview With The Artist: Mike Benson

Today I had the great pleasure of interviewing one of the best photographers around, Mike Benson. Mike is known as IMikeMedia on DeviantArt. Mike is a 57 year old artist from Oxford, Alabama and has been creating beautiful art on dA for six years now.

Mike is a digital photographer and creates photographic manipulations. When asked what got him started in digital photography, he replied “A couple of years ago I took a phone pic of a trout that I just caught. I've since then found an online program in which I can manipulate that same photograph in hundreds of ways and colors.”

He first became interested in art in the first grade. His first piece was a drawing of a sea otter in the ocean. “I spent most of my childhood and teen years in drawing/sketching. That eventually evolved into 35 mm photography.” His favorite types of art to create is photographic manipulation and illustration. “I love to see creative, colorful photographic manipulations.” Mike has little/no training in photography or art, but you might disagree when you see his beautiful art gallery page. His tools of the trade are a Nikon 7200 camera and his laptop.

Free Speech

I fail to understand why so many individuals feel as if their opinions are the only ones worth listening to. Some people either shove their opinions down your throat or call you a racist simply for disagreeing with them. It certainly seem as if a great deal of people these days react this way when speaking to anyone who has an opposing view. Last I checked however, this is still America. In America, everyone is entitled to voice their own personal opinions, EVERYONE.  Everyone should be able to voice their personal feelings and beliefs, without having to fear some type of retaliation or punishment. If you’re allowed to kneel without condemnation, then you should also be allowed to stand without receiving condemnation. Not just Democrats, not just Liberals, and not just Leftists. Not just Republicans, not just Conservatives, and not just the Right.   It’s also important to remember that individuals can disagree with one another and still remain friends. The Evil Eye

The evil eye protection charm is a blue talisman that is round in shape, typically made of glass. The talisman contains an outer dark blue circle, an inner white circle, followed by an innermost light blue circle with a black dot (as in the eye’s pupil) painted on it. It is a protection charm that an individual wears, or carries, to protect themselves from any and all unwanted danger and/or evil spirits. Legend says the evil eye protective charm calls upon an otherworldly presence that reflects any malicious and vengeful glares/curses from a spiteful individual. The spiteful person believing that an innocent person (the victim of the curse) somehow wronged them, and so wishes harm towards that innocent individual.  The evil eye talisman (or charm) was created to protect someone from this evil eye curse.
