For as long as humans have been on this Earth, there have been tales of mer creatures. Fantastical beings living right along side of us, hidden in the depths of the sea, lakes and other bodies of water. From the Syrian goddess Atargatis to Ea, the Babylonian god of the sea. Of course Atargatis, goddess of the moon and water, being the very oldest of mermaid legends. While Ea was later adopted by the ancient Greeks and Romans to become Poseidon and Neptune. Both deities being approximately 4000 years    old. Then you have Naiades, also known as water nymphs. The most famous nymph, of course, being Calypso from Homer’s The Odyssey.  The most recent siting of these majestic and fantastical creatures was in 2012. While the crime rates soars higher by the day in New York City, police officials are now burdened with the responsibility of guarding a BLM street painting. Mayor De Blasio has ordered an around the clock protection watch of the mural. Twenty-seven police officers, including one sergeant per shift, to guard the mural. That’s nine total police officials 3x per day. Apparently this now takes priority above all else. That’s nine police officers, at any given time, not protecting New York City and it’s people. Nine less police officers keeping residents safe, stopping drug dealers, arresting  murderers, and patrolling the streets. I think it’s safe to say that NYC’s mayor does not have his residents’ best interest at  heart. Nor, would it seem, does he have his priorities in proper order. And I think most people will agree, that the safety of your city’s residents is much more important than guarding a mural. He won’t protect NYC’s memorials or statues, but he can protect it’s mur...

When do we, as individuals, become too opinionated, oblivious of the consequences? When did we become a nation of “keyboard warriors”? In truth, we all believe that it would be a perfect world if everyone thought as we do. Yet we all know that this is impossible considering how numerous our society’s beliefs and opinions have become. Everyone having their own distinct personalities with their own unique views. It often seems that social media can be a bit too much at times. A society where everyone seems to be posting and sharing their every opinion, thought, and view on quite literally everything. In centuries past, most individuals would keep their opinions to themselves, unless asked. However, those days are long past. Everyone wanting to give their two cents’ worth, whether warranted or not.  It would seem to me that the truth often offends. That’s called life, and in life not everyone is going to agree with you. Today, in Chicago, 18 police officers were severely injured by violent protesters while attempting to protect a Christopher Columbus statue. Rioters threw rocks, frozen bottles, lit fireworks, and other items at the ill-equipped officers. Thanks to Mayor Lightfoot’s decision to “reorganize” the police department. In this particular instance however, “reorganizing” the police meant that the officers involved lacked the necessary equipment to deal with possible rioting.  Two days prior to this, four police officers, including an NYPD chief, were injured by violent protesters. Prior to that incident, three more officers were violently assaulted by “protesters” attempting to cross the Brooklyn Bridge. What kind of world are we leaving our children and future generations? Since when is it socially acceptable to bully, threaten, attack, or even kill an individual simply because they don’t wear a mask? Granted, it is state law in many places to wear a mask inside businesses or out in public. Yet to openly engage someone for not wearing one? Really people?!  Has the entire world gone mad? What happened to common curtesy or simply getting a manager to deal with an issue you’re having with another patron? No, instead you form a violent mob around them, cursing at them, and threatening their lives. Or worse, you shoot and kill someone because they publicly disagreed with you. This country is supposed to be the land of the free. Seems like it’s steadily becoming the land of the “Do As I Say And Not As I Do” instead. Protesters are tearing down statues and destroying monuments. Why? Because it offends them. How does it offend them? It just does. Doesn’t matter if it’s Washington, the founder of our great nation or slavery abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Doesn’t matter if it’s the Tuskegee Airmen, who were black or Mahatma Ghandi’s statue, a man of peace, or the famous Hans Christian Anderson’s Little Mermaid statue. Every single statue or monument ever built offends and outrages these so called “peaceful protesters”. But they’re not peaceful, far from it. They’re looting, burning, and attacking innocent individuals. That’s not peaceful, it’s anarchy and domestic terrorism.
